OiLibya Rally of Morocco: triple win for BFGoodrich®
2,600 kilometers, a Super Special, five stages and eight specials, six categories and nearly 200 vehicles: that just about sums up this year's 18th edition of the Rallye OilLybia du Maroc. The final event counting for the FIA All-Terrain Rally world trophy took place from October 4 to 10 between Fes and Erfouz. 7 days during which the world's top drivers crossed every type of terrain Morocco has to offer.
From the very first stages, the pairings of Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Eléna driving Peugeot, and Nasser Al-Attiyah and Mathieu Baumel with Toyota, made it a race within a race, in sometimes appalling conditions. Heavy rain had made a number of passages tough to handle and almost impossible to cross. Taking it in turns at the top of the leaderboard, Nasser's team finally edged clear after the fourth stage. They stayed neck and neck up to the finish line, but Nasser Al-Attiyah ended with a 20 second lead over Sébastien Loeb. Breath-taking stuff for our #DriverEnough drivers.
Spaniard Nani Roma again proved his consistency at rallies, gradually scaling the leaderboard to hit the top three. He then won the final stage with a performance that took him up to third place in the final overall rankings. Bryce Menzies and Carlos Sainz came in 8th and 10th respectively.
In the Open category, Christian Lavieille gave nothing away right up to the finish line to pick up third place in overall ranking. But, he is the at the first place in the Auto T2 category!
Also in Open category: special mention to Jesus Calleja, our BFGoodrich® ambassador, who finished in 10th position. And Morgan Picard, a Good Project candidate, who obtained the fifth place in his buggy. Great performances all round!
All in all, the OiLybia Rallye of Morocco was another exciting and eventful race, that provided useful insights a few months from the Dakar. BFGoodrich® is proud to have headed the rally and geared up all our drivers from start to finish. Once again, congratulations to Nasser for the win and well done everybody.
